It has been yet again a very frantic semester and finishing the subject is a nice load off the shoulders. Maybe next time we can build on skills on creating multimedia. I quite liked using Inspiration to do the storyboard because I’m used to creating flowcharts using word and they are quite boring but Inspiration made use of different graphics and had some templates we could work off. I haven’t done Program Design yet so it’s not all over with e-Learning for me so … Until then it’s au revoir for now. Time to holiday!! WOO HOO.

Today, well technically, yesterday could not have been so bad. Crashing and burning, or rather, choking, when called upon in a class debate was something I didn’t need in a subject I am already struggling to cope with. Plus having being examined on my reading, writing and referencing skills in the same subject and essentially failing that was not news that could be digested very well. The first few weeks back to uni have been a mess and trying to organise my days have been impossible. I have decided I am someone who lacks some serious adhoc skills. In regards to that other subject, I was sort of optimistic for a while because we have to use wikis and blogs in it and the knowledge and skills I have developed in e-Learning Experiences and now e-Learning Design have transferred well. I wish I had something else that I could transfer to help me get through that subject.

Other than that, I have almost finished the first activity for module 1 – completing it has only been delayed by the fact that we have been focusing on our group assignments. The readings that accompanied the activity I must say were quite interesting, especially the Horizons Reports. More on that later … but back to group assignments, I must admit I have neglected it quite a bit but I promise to make it up to my group by (hopefully) bringing some good points to our discussions in class tomorrow.

Until then …

My experience of edublogs has been fairly good so far. However I must say that lately the site has been down so much as I’ve been working on my short course. So what I’ve been doing is writing my posts in Word and then pasting it when the site is functioning properly. This sort of adds to the stress I’ve been feeling lately as the end of the year is rolling around and we’ve just got those last major assignments to go. Also I don’t think I am a fantastic blogger because my blog entries are like essays! I have the tendency to write a lot, you should see the birthday cards I write for my friends … I must say it has been strange keeping track of my progress because I’m such a paper and pen learner. I believe that the face to face interaction I have with my teachers is where I learn best. I’ve struggled with features of the online course I’m currently completing and I’ve found help difficult to come by via the provider. I prefer having someone take me along my learning rather than depend so much on myself. I believe that I can be independent and successful but I also need that support along the way that a teacher provides. I have an appreciation for e-Learning and can see how it can work in other contexts but for me I think blending e-Learning with face to face learning is perhaps the way to go. So in saying that, I’ve enjoyed the subject because it is exactly that … a blend of different learning modes. More reflections to come when class finishes … this was just a passing thought which I just had to put in

Over the past few weeks I have been heavily emailing as the university club that I sit on the executive team for is launching next week and seeing as though everyone is very busy at this time of the year with assignments we have been collaborating online. I find this process of communication very difficult especially when we are trying to organise an event as messages are coming from all directions. There are six girls who are a part of this team and we constantly receive forwards of emails sent to our club email address (which is managed by the president and the treasurer) so my inbox has been overloaded! I prefer to have face to face meetings but it is only becoming more apparent how embedded the internet is in our lives. It is a fast communication tool however this is only the case if we check our emails so I have been vigilant and have been checking at least twice a day. Also email is a great way to get into contact with a diverse range of people. I say this as recently I have contacted the Marketing Manager of Canterbury BMW to conduct some research for an assignment I am working on and if I had to contact him by phone I think I would be more nervous and so would be unable to articulate myself well but through email I can take more time to think about what I am saying and express myself more professionally. And so there are pros and cons to email, but overall I’d have to say without it we’d be stuck waiting … waiting to communicate with our colleagues, waiting to get a response to questions, waiting for mr postman! But it’s bye bye Mr Postman …

I’ve been up to my plain old self and have delayed posting my activities. But I don’t blame the procrastinator side entirely. I also blame the perfectionist side. When I do something it has to be done right or more correctly the way I want it done. So when I’m posting I have to make sure the font is right, headings are right, size is right, colours are right, spacing is right … CRRRAAZZZYYYY. I know. I think I might have OCD. Or maybe I’m so superficial that everything has to be pretty or else I won’t like it. Probably explains why it’s so hard to find Mr. Right. Hahaha. It’s late, my ramblings will be very random.

This week is very busy for me. And so will the next couple of months. I’m the media executive of a great women’s networking group called 85Broads and we’re in the middle of establishing our club so there’s lots of work to be done. I’m also running for election to the education faculty board which was something a friend suggested I do and so I thought why not, I seem to to have lots of time to spare (errr, I regret that now, time appears to be going by much faster now that I’ve decided to take on board so many things). I also have my birthday coming up. And as usual uni demands continue to increase. Plus there’s work and I joined the gym (good for you but gets too addictive – aside from regular gym use I’m also in yoga, boxing and abs classes – again I was thinking that I had plenty of time to spare). And so that is my life thus far. Enjoyable. Fast Paced. Full of Experiences. What more could you want?

It is now approaching 2am and I’m almost finished completing the exercises and homework from last week as well as the work due this week which I can’t be bothered posting now but will do so in the morning!

Procrastination – what kept me busy? Well I did my work for other subjects so that’s one, I worked (two), Father’s Day Celebrations (three), ummm … I was sick (four), I painted my nails (five), The Chaser’s returned to the ABC and I also got hooked on Summer Heights High (six, seven) and yeah …

Current effects of procrastinating include sleep deprivation, panda eyes as well as dry eyes, grumbling tummy, sore buttcheeks (I thought about which word to use here and went for a very mild language rating) and aching shoulders (if I were to continue at this rate I’d have a hunch that would easily be comparable to that of the hunchback of notre dame). But moving on …

At this stage of the semester I’m still adjusting to using del.icio.us and I’m bookmarking more so that is a good sign. As for Netvibes, I have now set the page as my homepage and have told friends outside of e-learning experiences to set up an account because I’ve found it as such a useful tool. I’ve linked my email and facebook accounts as well as del.icio.us and my edublog and I’ve subscribed to a number of SMH RSS feeds so when I open my browser everything I would check individually is all there right in front of me. I LOVE IT!!!

And finally, a comment on my progress with this blog … it’s going A-oK. I need to blog more regularly as I am finding that I do work throughout the week but end up posting everything up on one day and also because I am writing responses in Word I tend to treat this blog as a publishing outlet and thus fail to include my personal reflections on the activities as I preoccupy myself with getting the work done and then posting it. So there are a few obstacles to be overcome but I believe that I will manage. I am aiming high for all my subjects and so I will be sure not to neglect my blog.

The bed is calling me and sleep (one of my favourite things to do) awaits … Class is today and so when I wake up I look forward to the hour trip into uni but at the end of the day its dinner and drinks with some uni buddies (HEY TO ALL THE GANG THOUGH- Anne, Artha, Barbs, Eddie, Kimmy, Laurence, Lia, SarahG, SarahK, Vince, Yvonne) and my besties who are coming from work and who will be making the most of the APEC Public Holiday on Friday.

Until next time, this has been another mindless rambling …

Upon realising that my first two posts were published at the wrong time (5am and 9am – I’m usually not awake during that time on days that I don’t have uni or work) … I was set to ask my lecturer why this was so, but after navigating around the site I realised that in my options, I hadn’t changed the time setting and rather than have the time to post be 10hours from the UTC time I had it at -6hours. OHhhhHHh … and the moment of pure genius comes over me … ALSO, I’ve been having problems with my browser on my laptop and I’ve realised that if this continually happens I’m going to be in trouble when it comes to checking and adding to my technology framework … Another downfall of e-Learning … Sometimes accessibility is not always that easy … But so far it seems as though I have fixed this problem … Another feeling of pure genius
